The Human Scale is a multimedia theatrical production written and performed by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Lawrence Wright and directed by Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater.

Drawing on Wright’s investigative reporting for The New Yorker, the production explores the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, examining the political, historical, and human consequences of the conflict and the question of how societies assign value to human life.

Combining live performance with documentary footage, interviews, photographs, and a multi-screen video environment, The Human Scale transformed investigative journalism into a theatrical experience.

Co-produced by 3LD Art & Technology Center and The Public Theater, with Aaron Louis and Kevin Cunningham producing on behalf of 3LD, the production premiered in conjunction with the 2010 New Yorker Festival and ran at 3LD in Lower Manhattan through October 31, 2010.
